I found two coins, cast in silver
that I wish were gold
so that I could buy more time
now that I am too old
all these wishes – they’re in vain!
force-fed to the fountain,
the wind erodes my weakened mind
and makes my molehills mountains

The passing time and falling sand
all see that we turn dust
out goes the flicker of each candle –
we’re ashes in the gust

The past and future seem so sweet
at times, and others, bitter
I tossed those silver coins away,
hoping for something better.
