The most shattered people
are often, the most whole
there’s a broken heart
in every well-aged soul
if your eyes have seen too much
and you shout each night, “Enough!”
if you pick you scabs and touch
your wounds, and oozing stuff
if your world crumbles around you
and you say, “It could be worse”
if you bottle it inside
to fuel your coming hearse
then you may be a saint
or just a tad insane
holding such restraint
underneath such strain
and if you aren’t insane
well, you’re soon to be
this imagined ball and chain
anchors you – you’ll see.
